The Dr. Barry T. Katzen Master IR Clinician Award seeks to honor an interventional radiologist who exemplifies dedication to clinical practice, patient care, diligence in their work and continuous improvement within the field as well as who has made a demonstrable impact at their institution or practice as a result. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to enhancing patient outcomes and advancing the reputation and practice of interventional radiology through their hard work, commitment and, most importantly, clinical practice. The award is being given in the name of Barry T. Katzen, MD, FSIR, who pioneered clinical practice for IR in 1976 and became a vocal advocate, champion and example for colleagues of the importance of IR being a clinical discipline for advancement of the specialty.
The recipient will receive:
- Complimentary annual meeting registration
- Recognition during the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting
Eligibility
The applicant must demonstrate:
- Exemplary patient care: The recipient of the Dr. Barry T. Katzen Master Clinician Award demonstrates a commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures. Their approach to patient care is marked by empathy; attention to detail; and a focus on achieving optimal outcomes, exemplary bedside manner and longitudinal care where appropriate. They are recognized by peers practicing IR or other disciplines in the ambulatory or hospital environment.
- Dedication and work ethic: The nominee exhibits exceptional dedication and extraordinary work ethic in their practice of interventional radiology. They consistently go above and beyond in their patient care to ensure the delivery of exceptional care to patients, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and accountability in their professional duties. Examples of this dedication may include receiving letters from patients or colleagues, providing patients with personal contact information such as their cell phone when appropriate, and going above and beyond when necessary such as making house calls after procedures.
- Continuous improvement: The nominee is actively engaged in ongoing professional development and improvement within the field of interventional radiology. They demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt and incorporate new techniques, technologies and best practices into their clinical practice to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Impactful contributions: The nominee has made significant contributions to the advancement of interventional radiology and is an ambassador of IR in their institution or practice environment as a result. Whether through clinical innovations, process improvements, or contributions to education and training, their efforts have positively impacted the practice of interventional radiology and the experiences of both patients and colleagues. Clinical IR sheds a positive light on interventional radiologists among other clinicians.
- Unrecognized excellence: All members of the Society of Interventional Radiology may be considered for this award, regardless of level of participation or leadership within SIR. The Master IR Clinician Award aims to shine a spotlight on an IR's valuable contributions and celebrate their commitment to excellence in patient care. The award celebrates the professional practice of an individual who will be seen as a great physician and role model to colleagues and those in training.
