The Leaders in Innovation Award recognizes and promotes innovation within interventional radiology, continuing IR’s historical innovative development that has revolutionized medicine over the last 40 years. The award acknowledges those individuals who have conceptualized and implemented an idea that has had an advantageous impact on the practice of interventional radiology. The innovation can be a device, technique, approach, clinical practice model or anything having a significant improvement upon the quality of patient care or economics of interventional practice.
2017 Leaders in Innovation Award: Riad Salem, MD, MBA, FSIR
SIR Foundation Research Grants and Education Division Chair Erik N.K. Cressman, MD, FSIR, and SIR Foundation Chair Filip Banovac, MD, FSIR, presented the 2017 Leaders in Innovation Award to Riad Salem, MD, MBA, FSIR, at the SIR Foundation Awards in March.
The 2017 Leaders in Innovation Award recepient is Dr. Riad Salem. Dr. Riad Salem is a forward-thinking pioneer in the field of interventional radiology. His contribution to the art, science and practice of yttrium-90 radioembolization for liver malignancies opened the door for this now widely accepted procedure to be offered to many patients who simply had no other treatment options. The entire field of interventional radiology owes him a great deal of gratitude for his innovative work.
