The Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award promotes excellence in academic research for members early in their careers. This award honors the founding editor of the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) by recognizing the importance of the young investigator in developing interventional solutions for the future.
In 1990, SIR Foundation established the Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award as a way to recognize promising young practitioners of interventional medicine early in their careers and encourage their pursuit of academic careers. Each year the author of the most outstanding clinical science research paper submitted receives this distinguished award.
2017 Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award: Terence Gade, MD, PhD
SIR Foundation Research Grants and Education Division Chair Erik N.K. Cressman, MD, FSIR, presented the 2017 Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award to Terence Gade, MD, PhD, at the SIR Foundation Awards in March.
Dr. Terence Gade, Assistant Professor of Radiology and Cancer Biology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, is the co-founder and co-director of the Penn Image-Guided Interventions Lab. The research interests of the PIGI Lab focus on the convergence of image-guided interventions, cancer/vascular biology and molecular imaging for the development of novel imaging approaches and advanced therapeutics in interventional radiology.
Dr. Gade’s work focuses on emphasizing the characterization of the tumor microenvironment with respect to cellular heterogeneity as well as the modulation of this heterogeneity to improve existing and development new treatment paradigms in interventional oncology.
