2011 Winner

Michael E. Edwards, MD, FSIR
Imaging Associates of North Mississippi

Michael E. Edwards, MD, FSIR, has played an active role in SIR since 1999. He has served as chair of both the Economics and Government Affairs Committees, has served on the Executive Council of SIR and has been a strong proponent of coding, health and policy as it relates to interventional radiology. His efforts on behalf of the Society have achieved tremendous results and are greatly appreciated. After concluding his fellowship at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Edwards has worked in private practice from 1990 to the present. Dr. Edwards established an interventional program where none had existed before. He also pioneered The Vein Center, where he developed treatment of saphenous vein reflux with radiofrequency ablation. Dr. Edwards was the first in SIR Foundation history to give a Legacy Gift to the Foundation. The million dollar contribution from Dr. Edwards and his wife Sherri will someday create a scholarship fund for IR fellows pursuing the DIRECT Pathway. According to Dr. Edwards, "We want to make certain that SIR Foundation, an organization we've believed in and supported, will still be doing its job long after we're gone. We decided it was time to start making definite plans to help ensure interventional radiology's future as well as that of our family." It is for this reason that Dr. Edwards has been selected for SIR Foundation's Frederick S. Keller, MD Philanthropist of the Year.
