Grants
SIR Foundation supports a robust portfolio of grant programs intended to encourage the development of interventional radiology research. SIR Foundation grant programs form a continuum of funding opportunities that range from research training, to seed grants, to academic development grants. Our grant program is designed to benefit researchers at all levels, from medical students to established practitioners. Since the grant program's inception, SIR Foundation has funded over 150 research projects and has awarded more than $3 million in support of original research. A recent survey revealed that SIR Foundation grant recipients report receiving close to $50 million in grant funding since receiving their SIR Foundation grant.
Eligibility for Student and Pilot grants has expanded. The Student Research Grant, formerly the Medical Student Research Grant, is open to undergraduate students interested in Interventional Radiology research. The Pilot Grant is open to non-physicians and physicians to apply for support as postdoctoral researchers within established IR research labs. Additionally, the Ernest Ring grant has been expanded to two years.

Academic Transition Grant
The Academic Transition Grant is designed for interventional radiologists over the age of 40 who have recently begun academic careers after spending several years in non-academic practice. The grant is intended to facilitate the establishment of a record of independent research by the investigator in order to promote a successful academic career.

Allied Scientist Grant
The SIR Foundation Allied Scientist Training Grant is designed to provide support to trainees enrolled in graduate level training programs which are outside the clinical realm of Interventional Radiology but are still considered crucial to the future of Interventional Radiology. The goal is to create collaborative research training environments that benefit from the unique perspectives of established scientists and Interventional Radiologists.

Dr. Ernest J. Ring Academic Development Grant Supported by AngioDynamics
This grant program, named after Ernest J. Ring, MD, the founder of the SIR Foundation, is designed to provide support to junior Interventional Radiology faculty members early in their academic careers to allow time for the conduct of research. The goal of this program is to have the grant recipient subsequently obtain additional funding from other sources, e.g., National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants.

Funding Source Development Grant
The Funding Source Development Grant is designed to support projects in clinical research areas important to the advancement of interventional radiology and patient care that align with SIRF clinical research goals. The Funding Source Development Grant will provide support for costs related to developing any of the following: a complete protocol for a clinical study, a federal application designed to seek support for a clinical study from the NIH, a complete clinical proposal designed for subsequent industry funding, an operations/training manual and supporting materials as needed for a clinical study. This grant mechanism is designed to provide support for the development of projects that are identified and highly prioritized by a SIR Foundation Research Consensus Panel (RCP). However, other projects that did not go through the RCP process are also eligible for consideration. Please note the deadline as stated in the grant guidelines
Pilot Research Grant Program Supported by C.R. Bard
The Pilot Research Grant Program is designed to fund research in areas identified by the SIR Foundation as important to the advancement of interventional radiology and patient care. These grants generally address a specific hypothesis and generate preliminary data that could be used to justify or strengthen subsequent comprehensive applications to national peer-reviewed funding agencies. Grants may be issued to support the initial research efforts of faculty as well as those who have limited research experience.

The Radiology Resident Research Grant is designed to foster an interest in research by funding a research project conducted by the resident in an area identified by SIR Foundation as important to the advancement of interventional radiology and patient care.

Immersion Workshop and Grant for Federal Funding
The SIR Foundation Immersion Workshop and Grant for Federal Funding is designed to assist the mid-level and experience investigator in submitting a well-written, competitive, major funding proposal to the federal government. The recipient will have to commit to attend a 3-day immersion workshop where improvements, revisions, and finalization of the proposal will be done in a small work-group environment, with expert assistance of on-site grant consultants. A successful recipient of this award will typically have an established research record and preliminary data that are judged to be sufficient for integration into a competitive application to the NIH or similar federal agency.
Grant funding will cover the costs of the workshop attendance, including travel, lodging, meals, and other costs of the workshop. A restricted stipend of $2000 would be provided to the participant to support the costs of final proposal submission.
