SIR Foundation Discovery Campaign Guidelines
As the SIR Foundation enters a Capital Campaign, it is vital to have in place standards to govern the acceptance, counting, management and recognition of gifts made by donors to meet Campaign objectives. This document sets forth these various campaign counting and acceptance standards.
I. CAMPAIGN SOLICITATION PERIOD
The active campaign solicitation period is from January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2009. Donors may make Campaign commitments beyond this period until December 31, 2011. All gifts and gift commitments that meet the SIR Foundation gift acceptance policy and are initiated from January 1, 2007 December 31, 2011, will be counted toward the Campaign Goal.
In addition, the Campaign will count selected gift commitments made specifically toward the goals of the Campaign, but prior to January 1, 2007.
II. CAMPAIGN PURPOSES
The Campaign seeks funds for the following core areas:
- Clinical trial and registry development
- Research grants and awards
- Educational initiatives
The Foundation will also recognize named endowments that are established with a minimum gift commitment of $100,000 and for the purposes above or otherwise unrestricted.
Further, the Campaign is comprehensive in its counting and crediting of the following types of Annual Fund gifts and special project gifts (consistent with the purposes of the Campaign).
III. GIFT ACCEPTANCE
The SIR Foundation Executive Committee may accept specific gift arrangements other than those detailed in this policy for campaign credit on the recommendation of the Campaign co-chairs and the Foundation executive director. Further, the SIR Foundation Executive Committee reserves the right to reject gifts that do not confirm to this and other Foundation policies and/or which it deems to not be in the best interests of the Foundation.
IV. DONOR STEWARDSHIP
The SIR Foundation recommends that all donors work with a qualified financial adviser in considering the structure and amount of their commitment to the Foundation. Further, the SIR Foundation subscribes to the Donor Bill of Rights.
